How many questions are on the Class E Knowledge Exam?
There are 50 multiple-choice questions. You need at least 40 correct, which is 80%, to pass.
What score do I need to pass?
You must score 80% or higher. That means getting 40 of the 50 questions right. You can miss up to 10.
What topics does the exam cover?
Florida traffic laws, road signs and signals, pavement markings, safe driving practices, and alcohol and drug laws. See the full breakdown.
Can I take the exam online?
Applicants under 18 can take the official exam online through approved third-party administrators. A notarized parent proctoring form is required. Adults 18 and older take the exam in person at a service center.
What do I need to do before taking the exam?
You must complete a state-approved course first: the 6-hour DETS course if you are under 18, or the 4-hour TLSAE (Drug and Alcohol) course if you are 18 or older. More about the course.
What happens if I fail?
You can retake the exam. Depending on where you test, a retake fee and a short waiting period may apply. The best fix is more practice, which is what this site is for.
How old do I have to be?
You can get a Florida learner's permit at 15. You must hold it for 12 months, or until you turn 18, before taking the driving skills test.
What documents do I need to bring?
Proof of identity, proof of your Social Security number, and two proofs of Florida residency. Under-18 applicants also need a notarized parental consent form. See the full checklist.
